Sir Alex Ferguson has become a patron of Alzheimer Scotland's Football Reminiscence Project, the therapy programme behind footballmemories.org.uk
The Manchester United manager received a selection of photographs from his early playing career sent by the manager of the Football Reminiscence Project, Michael White, and replied with a letter giving his backing to this groundbreaking work.
Many thanks for taking the time to write to me with respect of your project, and I would be delighted to support the work you are undertaking.
I receive many letters from fans from all over the world, reliving their football memories, and it never ceases to amaze me, some of the memories they bring flooding back to me, from my early playing days, up to the present day, nostalgia is wonderful and definitely gives you a glow.
I want to thank you sincerely for the photographs you sent me of my early playing days and as you say they brought back memories of those who I have played alongside and some of those I played against!!
I wish you every success in your endeavours and will be proud to be a supporter of your project.
Sir Alex Ferguson, CBE
